Federal Carbon Tax – Ending March 31, 2025

On March 15, 2025, the Federal Government announced that it would be removing the fuel charge (Carbon Tax) from Canada’s carbon pollution pricing system, effective April 1, 2025.

As a result, the Carbon Tax will no longer apply to all types of fuel and combustible waste in applicable provinces after March 31, 2025.

What does this mean for McDougall Energy customers?

Effective April 1, 2025, customers will no longer be charged the Carbon Tax on purchases of propane, gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, and kerosene.

At this time, it is unknown if the Department of Finance will offer any rebates on taxes paid on inventory up to March 31, 2025.

To prepare for the possibility of a tax rebate, we encourage customers to take physical readings of all fuel on hand at the close of business day on March 31, 2025.  This information will be necessary for your business to secure any potential refund that may be offered by the federal government in the future.

We will update this page with any news or additional details if more information is released.
