McDougall Energy Donates $5000 to the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ontario – McDougall Energy is pleased to announce a $5000 donation to the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter in Owen Sound.  The donation will support much needed veterinary care for surrendered pets – an expense that can add up quickly for the shelter.

Established in 1989 by a group of residents in Sydenham Township, The Grey Bruce Animal Shelter is a volunteer based, registered charitable organization funded by adoption fees, private donations and fundraising.  The shelter can house up to 10 surrendered and rescued dogs and 25 cats at any time, and provides essential veterinary services to all pets before finding them a loving home.  In 2018, the shelter found new homes for 68 dogs and 67 cats.

“This year we have seen an increase in the number of animals who have required extraordinary veterinary care” commented Deb Takeda, Operations Manager, Board Executive and Volunteer for the Shelter. “These unexpected expenses can put a strain on our finances, which is why we sincerely appreciate the generous contributions of donors like McDougall Energy.”

Often circumstances of pet owners change beyond their control: illness, job loss or death, leaving pets with no caregiver.  Dating back to the 70’s, second generation owner of McDougall Energy, Mrs. Joy McDougall, was well known in her local community for taking in wayward and surrendered animals, nursing them to health and finding caring homes for them.

“I’ve carried on Mom’s lifelong tradition of caring for animals in need in our local Sault Ste. Marie community” said Jennifer McDougall, Director of Human Resources at McDougall Energy “and I’m thrilled to be able to support the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter in their mission to care for and find homes for pets who otherwise might not have a chance – like Mom, I’m a devoted animal lover!”
