McDougall Energy donates $9,000 to Kingston Community Organizations

McDougall Energy Inc. (“McDougall Energy”) has donated $9,000 toward three local organizations in Kingston, Ontario. Donations have been distributed to Gananoque Food Bank, Southern Frontenac Community Services Corporation (SFCSC) Food Bank, and the Kingston Humane Society. Each organization has received $3,000.

“McDougall Energy is built on the support of the people living and working within the communities we serve, and local investments are an essential part of our business”, says Darren McDougall, President of McDougall Energy Inc. “Our company entered the Kingston market in June of this year through the acquisition of Rosen Energy. We are committed to continuing the local team’s efforts in supporting essential services and organizations within the Kingston region. We are proud to support these three organizations as they provide necessary services to the local community, especially as the holiday season approaches.”

Gananoque Food Bank

The Gananoque Food Bank was established in 1987 to support local individuals and families whose financial resources were insufficient to cover basic food needs. The Food Bank currently serves community members in Gananoque to Rockport, north to Taylor Road/Fairfax Road, and east to Deer Ridge Drive/Boundary Road. They offer temporary access to food to improve food security in the community. Clients are provided packed boxes of various food items.

COVID-19 posed many challenges to organizations like Gananoque Food Bank. Thankfully with the help of the community’s support through food drives and monetary donations, the Food Bank has remained a reliable source for food security and nutrition for its clients.

“The mission of the Gananoque Food Bank is to feed the hungry, and it truly is a community effort that enables us to do that,” says Sandy Cleveland, Manager of the Food Bank. “We’ve had to adjust our program to provide packaged boxes of food supplies as opposed to shopping from the shelves, but we are thankful that we can continue to support our community members. We are very grateful for the support offered by organizations like McDougall Energy and others who have given gifts that we can use to stock our shelves, especially with the holiday season approaching.”

The Gananoque Food Bank is funded and sustained through food and monetary donations from individuals, merchants, churches, school food drives, service clubs, and local businesses. The Food Bank is open every Wednesday and Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. and is operated by a pool of volunteers.

Kingston Humane Society

The Kingston Humane Society was founded in 1884 to provide shelter and care for homeless animals and to investigate cases of animal cruelty in Kingston and surrounding communities. They are a non-profit, charitable animal welfare organization committed to advocating for and improving the lives of animals within the community.

The Humane Society is supported solely by community donations and receives no government funding to assist its mission. The main services the Humane Society offers include animal cruelty investigations, a lost and found animal care facility, and a 24/7 emergency rescue service.

“We have experienced an influx of animal intakes over the last few months, and we are bursting at the seams right now – so this support has come at a great time,” says Gord Hunter, Executive Director of Kingston Humane Society. “Unfortunately, we’ve been unable to host many of our fundraising events in person this year which has reduced our overall donations significantly. We rely heavily on community support and donations. Our dedicated staff and our foster families have had a tremendous impact on our recent capacity concerns. I want to give a shout out to our entire team and thank them for their efforts. It wouldn’t be possible without their commitment to animal welfare in Kingston and the surrounding area. We also want to thank McDougall Energy for their donation. Corporate partners and sponsors are critical to the long-term success of the Kingston Humane Society.”
