McDougall Energy Wins Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Beyond Borders Award
SAULT STE. MARIE, Ontario, January 26, 2019– The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce (“SSMCOC”) celebrated innovation, creativity, leadership and entrepreneurship, as it handed out its 2019 Outstanding Business Achievement Awards at its annual awards gala.
Award nominations were collected from a call for nominations from the Chamber membership and from the public in late 2018. In all, more than 160 nominations were received for 22 award categories. From those nominations, almost 100 of the nominees met the established award criteria and let their business, agency or individual names stand for nomination.
McDougall Energy Inc. (“McDougall Energy”) was honoured to be named the recipient of the Beyond Borders award for a Sault Ste. Marie company with greater than 50 employees.
The Beyond Borders Award recognizes businesses in any industry for excellence in the development of export markets for their products or services through implementing a new export strategy within the last three years that has positively affected its bottom line. Beyond Borders considers businesses that have succeeded in expanding outside of Sault Ste. Marie as well as exporting goods and service.
Looking back to the early 90’s when McDougall Energy (then McDougall Fuels) opened its office in Sault Ste. Marie, it employed approximately 17 people and distributed refined fuel and commercial lubricants in the Thessalon / Sault Ste. Marie region. Today, as a direct consequence of expansion beyond the borders of Sault Ste. Marie, throughout ON and western Canada, MEI employs in excess of 400 people and distributes a whopping 4,000 % more refined energy products, including propane, than it did in the early 90’s!
