McDougall Energy Wins Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Beyond Sault Ste. Marie Award
On June 16, 2022, the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce (“SSMCOC”) celebrated entrepreneurship, innovation, and local business savvy, as it handed out its 2021 Outstanding Business Achievement Awards at its annual awards gala.
Award nominations were collected from a call to the Chamber membership and general public in early 2022. In all, more than 250 nominations were received in 20 award categories. From those nominations, almost 60 of the nominees met the established award criteria and let their business, agency or individual names stand for nomination.
McDougall Energy Inc. (“McDougall Energy”) was honoured to be named the recipient of the Beyond Sault Ste. Marie Award for a company with greater than 50 employees.
The Beyond Sault Ste. Marie Award recognizes businesses in any industry for excellence in the development of export markets for their products or services through implementing a new export strategy within the last three years that has positively affected its bottom line. Beyond Sault Ste. Marie considers businesses that have succeeded in expanding outside of Sault Ste. Marie as well as exporting goods and services.
Since relocating its Head Office of approximately 17 employees to Sault Ste. Marie in the early nineties, McDougall Energy has experienced significant expansion and growth, both in Algoma District and across Canada. Despite challenging years exasperated by the pandemic, McDougall Energy demonstrated resilience, executing several growth initiatives, including successfully closing eight acquisitions between June 2020 and February 2022. These acquisitions provided strategic opportunities in new or existing markets across Ontario, adding new operational facilities/offices, retail locations, team members, and new service agreements to its portfolio. Today, as a direct result of its expansion beyond the borders of Sault Ste. Marie, McDougall Energy and its Group of Companies support over 800 employment opportunities across Canada.
